When was the last time someone reached out to you? Was it a friend, family member, or coworker you haven’t spoken to in ages? How did it make you feel? Were you angry at their advance, or were you met with joy? Although I can not answer the previous questions for you, I can almost certainly answer the latter and say that you were most likely joyful. The act of reaching out is showing someone that you care. You were joyful, because it feels wonderful to be cared about.

Today, I challenge you to reach out to someone. Let them know that they are on your mind, with a simple text. I think that we often believe every act of reaching out needs to be for a specific reason. Whether that be to resolve a problem, or set up a meeting time there is usually a hidden agenda. I urge you to leave behind this sentiment, and instead reach out with a simple intention.

“I was thinking about you today, and missing you. How are you?”

The beauty of this is that it can be applicable to anyone in your life. These 12 words have the ability to uplift someone’s day. After all, who does not want to feel cared about?

The definition of what it means to be thoughtful is to hold consideration for the needs of other people. Simply being thoughtful toward our peers can change the dynamic of our relationships with those around us. The most simple, and pure method of exercising thoughtfulness is through the act of reaching out. Whether it’s to your coworker, spouse, sibling, parent, or long-lost friend I urge you to send out those 12 words today.
